Mercy Day
Mercy Day, celebrated annually on September 24th, honors the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, and Mother of Mercy—the patronal feast of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, MI. At St. Clare, we celebrate Mercy Day by reflecting on the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Each class selects a service project inspired by these works, committing to carry out acts of kindness and service throughout the year.
In past years, our students have lived out this mission in meaningful and tangible ways including providing snow boots for preschool children throughout the Valley, visiting and praying with the elderly, and respectfully tending and praying at local cemeteries. They have organized toy and winter coat drives for local families in need, prepared care packages for the homeless in Denver, and collected canned goods to support our community food markets. These works of mercy form compassionate hearts and teach our students that faith is lived through joyful service to others.
The Spiritual Works of Mercy: Nurturing the Spirit
The Corporal Works of Mercy: Serving with Compassion
By embracing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, we live out our faith through meaningful service, making a lasting impact on our community and reflecting God’s love in all that we do.
The Heart of Service
In addition to our class service projects, students at St. Clare engage in a variety of community service activities, including in-school service, faith-based initiatives, and hands-on outreach. Eighth graders partner with Kindergarten buddies, middle schoolers altar serve and assist with Mass setup and breakdown twice a week, and students regularly visit preschools throughout the Valley to read to the younger children, among many other acts of service.
