The Arts
At St. Clare's, the arts are not an add-on—they are part of how children learn to listen, to observe, to express, and to grow. Through weekly music and art classes in every grade, along with choir and middle school band, students develop confidence, discipline, and a shared sense of joy in creating. Guided by our dedicated faculty, including our music teacher, Ms. Meyer, and supported by the leadership of Principal Sister Regina Marie—whose background includes degrees in sacred music and music performance from the University of Northern Colorado and the Pontifical Institute for Sacred Music in Rome—the arts are woven into daily life as a meaningful and formative part of a K–8 education.
-
Art Class
Art is a place for students to explore, experiment, and have fun with creativity. From drawing and painting to hands-on projects with a variety of materials, students develop artistic skills, learn to observe and make thoughtful choices, and gain confidence while expressing themselves in new and imaginative ways.
-
Music Class
Music provides the foundation for musical understanding and literacy. Students explore rhythm, melody, and musical language while engaging with diverse styles and traditions, developing listening skills, focus, and a lasting appreciation for music as both an art form and a shared human experience.
-
Choir
Choir invites students to grow in confidence and community through singing together. Through sacred and traditional repertoire, students develop vocal technique, teamwork, and expressive musicianship, sharing their voices at school liturgies and special performances throughout the year.
-
Band
Band introduces students to instrumental music and the joy of making music together. Each student gets the opportunity to select an instrument that speaks to them, learning technique, reading music, and ensemble skills along the way. Playing in band helps students develop focus, collaboration, and the satisfaction of creating music as part of a team.
The Arts give students a space to discover their voices, create through music and visual art, express themselves, and grow as thoughtful, capable learners.
Electives
Our middle school electives give students the opportunity to explore new interests, develop talents, and discover strengths beyond the core curriculum. From performing on stage to programming robots, learning languages, or piloting drones, students engage in hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster collaboration. These electives nurture creativity, problem-solving, and a love of learning in a supportive and inspiring environment.
-
Drama
Drama offers students a chance to step into new characters, tell stories, and develop confidence in performance. Through acting, improvisation, and production work, students explore self-expression, teamwork, and stagecraft while building communication skills that extend far beyond the theater.
-
Spanish
Spanish electives immerse students in language, culture, and communication. Through conversation, games, and cultural exploration, students build proficiency while gaining confidence and an appreciation for language beyond the classroom.
-
Japanese
Japanese introduces students to language and culture through speaking, listening, and interactive activities. Students develop communication skills while exploring traditions, customs, and everyday expressions that bring the language to life.
-
Robotics
Robotics introduces students to engineering, coding, and problem-solving in a fun, hands-on environment. Students design, build, and program robots, learning to think critically, collaborate, and iterate on solutions as part of a creative, team-based process.
-
Drones (Part of the Robotics Program)
Drones give students the excitement of flight combined with the challenge of technology. Through piloting, programming, and safety instruction, students learn spatial reasoning, precision, and teamwork, applying STEM skills in a dynamic, real-world context.
-
Animation
Animation introduces students to the fundamentals of video editing and animation. Through hands-on projects, students learn basic storytelling, visual design, and digital media skills while creating simple animated and edited videos. This course builds creativity, technical confidence, and problem-solving through an engaging, project-based approach.
Middle school electives inspire students to explore new interests, take risks, and discover talents, building confidence, creativity, and a love for learning through hands-on experiences.
